Job Description: Membership Internship
• Job Type: Internship (unpaid)
• Schedule: This internship is designed to align with the fall-semester schedule, with specific dates offering flexibility based on the intern’s school schedule or program requirements.
• Overview & Purpose:
The Membership internship provides valuable exposure to nonprofit operations. It is structured to help the intern develop key skills in customer service, marketing, basic project management, and professional development. The intern will support the Member Engagement Director and the broader membership team, contributing to the delivery of a welcoming, engaging, and high-quality experience for YMCA members. The role involves working on a variety of projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing member engagement, improving program delivery, and fostering a positive and inclusive community environment at the YMCA.
• Essential Functions (Key Responsibilities):
• Assisting with day-to-day membership operations and delivering outstanding customer service at the front desk.
• Helping to plan and implement member engagement initiatives and special events to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere.
• Supporting outreach phone calls to both prospective and current members to build relationships and promote engagement.
• Contributing to data entry, surveys, and other reporting efforts to improve member services and track outcomes.
• Participating in the creation of marketing materials, such as flyers and emails, to promote various programs and events.
• Assisting with basic project management tasks, including tracking deadlines, coordinating with team members, and maintaining project documentation.
• Participating actively in team meetings, outreach events, and staff trainings.
• Engaging in professional development opportunities to build skills relevant to nonprofit work, customer service, and leadership.
• Providing feedback and ideas to enhance the overall membership experience and program delivery.
• Contributing to a welcoming, inclusive, and community-focused atmosphere by modeling the YMCA’s core values.
• Taking on special projects aligned with the intern’s skills, interests, and career goals as assigned.
• Performing any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.
• Compensation & Benefits:
• This is an unpaid position.
• Interns are eligible for a free YMCA membership for the duration of the internship.

• A professional appearance and attitude.
• Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Enthusiasm for member engagement and working in a mission-driven environment.
