Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Wildcat Advantage and Internship Department at Weber State University is dedicated to connecting students with High Impact Educational Experiences, specifically focusing on providing valuable work experience opportunities through internships. The department aims to empower students to grow professionally and acquire practical skills.

The department is seeking a dynamic Social Media Intern to establish and manage a strong social media presence, primarily on Instagram. This role is crucial for better connecting with students and promoting internship opportunities and relevant information. The intern will be instrumental in developing the initial social media strategy, creating engaging content, and establishing a consistent brand voice. This position offers a unique opportunity to build a social media presence from the ground up.

Responsibilities:

The Social Media Intern’s core responsibilities include:

• Developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy for the Internships Department, with a primary focus on Instagram.
• Creating engaging and visually appealing content, including graphics, short videos, and stories, specifically relevant to student internships and career development.
• Designing social media templates for future use to ensure consistent brand identity.
• Assisting in maintaining a consistent brand identity across all social media visuals and digital materials.
• Collaborating closely with the Internships Department team to understand their communication goals and effectively translate them into compelling social media content.
• Monitoring current social media trends and identifying opportunities for increased engagement with the student audience.
• Managing multiple social media projects simultaneously and ensuring all deadlines are met.

Learning Objective:

By the end of the internship, the student will achieve the following learning objective:

Develop Integrated Social Media Campaigns: The intern will learn to design and execute comprehensive social media campaigns that integrate branding, content creation, and engagement strategies. This includes acquiring practical skills in establishing a new social media presence and creating reusable content templates that effectively drive student engagement and promote internship opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Be a full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled at Weber State University.
• Possess Sophomore or Junior academic standing.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.
• Be eligible for on-campus employment and have completed the current year’s FAFSA (for U.S. citizens).
• Demonstrate familiarity with Instagram and other social media platforms.
• Possess an attention to detail and the ability to work effectively within established brand guidelines.
• Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A full-time undergraduate student at Weber State University, majoring in Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field.
• Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop) is a plus.
• A strong portfolio showcasing creativity and an understanding of social media trends is a plus.
