About the Companies

Lensa is a career site dedicated to helping job seekers find employment opportunities within the US. It is important to note that Lensa is not a staffing firm or an agency, and it does not directly hire for the jobs it advertises. Instead, Lensa functions as a promoter, advertising job openings on platforms like LinkedIn on behalf of its direct clients, recruitment advertising agencies, and marketing partners. For this specific internship, Lensa is partnering with DirectEmployers to promote the position on behalf of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST).

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST) is described as Tennessee’s largest health benefit plan company, established in 1945. Its mission is to help Tennesseans achieve good health, and it emphasizes its role as a local entity deeply rooted in the community. BCBST operates as a remote-first organization, meaning many of its employees primarily work from home. Positions are categorized as fully remote, partially remote, or office-based. While BCBST hires remote employees from across the U.S., it explicitly excludes applicants residing in California, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and New York. Applicants from these restricted states may be considered if they relocate to an approved state at their own expense before starting the position. Relocation benefits may be available for those who move to Chattanooga, TN.

BCBST maintains strict hiring policies, including an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policy, ensuring recruitment, hiring, training, and promotion without discrimination based on various protected characteristics. The company also has a firm stance against unsolicited assistance from search firms for employment opportunities. Furthermore, effective 2017, BCBST implemented a Tobacco-Free Hiring Statement, meaning it no longer hires individuals who use tobacco or nicotine products in any form in Tennessee and where state law permits. All job offers are contingent upon passing a background check that includes an illegal drug and tobacco/nicotine test.
