About the Job Description
This is a six-month paid Interior Design Internship offered by Olson Kundig. It is open to interior design students and interior design school graduates from around the world.
Program Goal:
The primary goal of the internship is to provide participants with experience and exposure to the many facets of interior design practice. Interns will gain invaluable experience applying their knowledge and skills learned through education in a professional business environment, working alongside world-class professionals.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The intern will support Interior Designers and Architects with all aspects of project work, including conceptual, design development, and construction documentation in a fast-paced professional setting.
Duties May Include:
• Sample Library Management: Organizing and updating information and price lists, including filing and returning samples, maintaining electronic library, database, and physical samples.
• Design Software Utilization: Creating floor plans and furniture plans using Revit and AutoCAD.
• Hand Sketching: Capable of hand sketching/coloring 3-dimensional images of interiors and furniture.
• Research: Conducting research for materials, furniture, and photographic images through hardcopy and online sources.
• Digital Asset Management: Downloading and editing images and files from websites and catalogs for use in Revit, Photoshop, or InDesign presentations.
• Administrative Support: Updating and filing paperwork, organizing client files, preparing transmittals, packaging and mailing samples/correspondence.
• Vendor Communication: Engaging in telephone and face-to-face meetings with sales representatives or showrooms, researching pricing, spec sheets, and stock checks.
• Errands: Assisting with pick-up/delivery between various locations and Olson Kundig’s office (e.g., picking up samples, mock-ups).
Opportunities and Exposure for Interns:
Interns may:
• Assist project teams and gain experience at different project phases.
• Utilize their skills in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, or hand sketching.
• Assist with research and selection of furniture and finishes.
• Attend construction site visits.
• Participate in in-office speaker series and weekly design critiques.
• Attend Interiors Studio meetings.
• Meet and organize/attend vendor presentations.
• Maintain the sample library.
Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or currently enrolled college student working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, preferably from a CIDA accredited program.
• Interest: Must have an interest in a career in interior design.
• Technical Skills: Strong user of Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Windows-based software solutions.
• Soft Skills: Strong conceptual, communication, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge: General knowledge of current furniture, material, and building finish products. Knowledge in LEED requirements is a plus.
Other Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license.
• Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Capable of climbing, standing, and working on a 6’-0” ladder.
