About the Job: LPN SNE (Student Nurse)

This role is for a Student Nurse (LPN SNE), a vital member of the healthcare team who provides direct patient care under the close supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a designated healthcare professional. The position operates within the established policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health, adhering to federal, state, and local regulations.

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position:

The Student Nurse’s primary function is to deliver direct patient care, working under the guidance of an RN, ensuring adherence to all relevant healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

Essential Job Functions:

Nursing Process Support: Works directly under the RN’s direction to support the application of the nursing process.
Skill Development: Actively develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN, contributing to quality patient care. Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking.
Basic Patient Care: Provides fundamental patient care, including but not limited to:
• Care and comfort.
• Recording vital signs.
• Personal care and hygiene.
• Assistance with mobility.
• Performing unit-based specialty duties.
Communication & Reporting: Acts as a liaison between the patient and the nurse, promptly reporting any changes or concerns to the nurse.
Customer Service: Delivers high-level customer service to all patients, their families, visitors, and employees.
Documentation: Ensures accurate, precise, and timely documentation for patient care when applicable.
Team Collaboration: Participates in hand-off/report sessions, sharing pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and departure.
Delegated Tasks: Performs delegated tasks once competency for those tasks has been validated.

Education Requirements:

Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Required: Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has successfully completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.

Certifications:

Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS).

Training:

Required: Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student.
Preferred: EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training.

Work Experience:

Preferred: Recent experience in an acute care and/or long-term care facility.

Patient Population:

The Student Nurse must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care across a broad spectrum of patient populations, demonstrating an understanding of growth and development principles for each group. The ability to assess patient status data and interpret information relative to age-specific needs is crucial. Patient populations served include:

• Neonates (0-4 weeks)
• Infants (1-12 months)
• Pediatrics (1-12 years)
• Adolescents (13-17 years)
• Adults (18-64 years)
• Geriatrics (65 years and older)
