Job Description, Detailed
This position is for an individual participating in a project management, estimating, and professional training program. It’s designed to expose and provide experience in various aspects of project management and professional careers within marine construction.

Key Learning Areas & Responsibilities Include:
• Developing bid packages.
Estimating project costs (materials, services, labor).
Selecting suppliers and procuring materials/services.
• Reading plans and contract specifications.
Scheduling project work activities.
Interfacing with project personnel, suppliers, and customers.
• Assisting in successful project completion and close out.

Specific Assignments:

Field Assignment:
• Working at Orion jobsites to learn marine construction project execution.
• Contributing as a team member to ongoing or new field projects.
• Understanding different craft positions and their coordination.
• Working closely with Project Engineer or Field Engineer to learn field supervision responsibilities and assist with their tasks.

Office Assignment:
• Working as a junior member of the Project Management group.
• Assisting in developing bid proposals.
Estimating project costs.
Procuring materials and services.
• Reading project plans/specifications and scheduling work.
Interfacing with project team members, suppliers, customers.
• Learning teamwork and ensuring a safe work environment for the team.

Safety and Compliance:
Personal accountability for safety and the safety of co-workers.
Authority to stop unsafe work.
• Strict adherence to laws, regulations, and Company policies.
• Obligation to report violations.
• Maintaining confidentiality of company information.

Position Requirements:
Education: Must be enrolled and have completed 1 year in a Civil Engineering, Construction Science/Construction Management, or a related curriculum leading to a B.S. Degree from an accredited college/university.
Desired Coursework: Project Management & Administration, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, Engineering & Project Standards, Safety & Environmental Compliance.
Experience: Prior work experience in the marine construction industry is preferred but not required.
Skills: Ability to quickly learn technical aspects, be an effective communicator, and interface well with all levels of employees.
Safety: Expected to observe and fulfill all safety responsibilities.

Physical/Mental Requirements:
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
• Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes).
• Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during emergencies.
• Capability to evacuate the work area timely.
Physical capabilities include: walking, stepping, climbing (including vertical ladders up to 40-50 ft), moving onto/off barges/boats/docks, standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, sitting for long periods, working in confined spaces and at elevated heights, lifting/carrying objects up to 50 lbs, adapting to extreme temperatures and outdoor conditions, and being able to drive regular passenger vehicles.
