Job Description

Job Title: School Bus Assistant

Job Purpose:
The primary purpose of the School Bus Assistant is to support the safe and reliable transportation of students by assisting the bus driver with the movement, management, and care of students. This includes assisting students while they are being transported to an assigned destination, as well as during boarding and exiting the vehicle.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Student Assistance: Safely assist students with entering and exiting the bus.
Safety and Restraint: Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
Monitoring and Management: Continuously monitor passengers to ensure safety regulations and student conduct rules are followed. Exercise student management through communication and discipline according to company policy.
Reporting: Document and report any violations or conduct concerns to appropriate authority or supervisor. Share concerns about suspicious or inappropriate behavior.
Emergency Response: Physically assist passengers in vehicle evacuation during emergencies.
Vehicle Maintenance Support: Assist the driver in keeping the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable.
Record Keeping: Complete all required paperwork and submit it to the appropriate employee/department in a timely manner.
Professional Conduct: Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating a positive attitude, good moral character, and integrity. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior when interacting with colleagues, supervisors, parents, and school personnel, always promoting company goodwill. Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
Attendance & Training: Report to duty on time and perform all responsibilities safely. Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Age: Must be at least 18 years of age (19 years of age for New York School Bus Assistants, as per state law).
Physical & Medical: Must meet physical and medical requirements for the role.
Training & Certification: Must satisfactorily complete and pass all required training and attend safety and in-service meetings to maintain qualification.
Attention to Detail & Dexterity: Possess a high degree of attention to detail and considerable dexterity to safely use various types of restraints and secure wheelchairs.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate to and work well with children. Ability to maintain effective pupil behavior management.
Professionalism & Diplomacy: Exhibit a high level of professionalism and diplomacy skills to work effectively with students, fellow employees, parents, and school district personnel.
Communication: Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Ability: Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.

Compensation:
The pay rate range, along with most other terms and conditions of employment, vary between different sites, geographical markets, customer/contractual terms, and positions.
