About Sonoma County Library

Sonoma County Library is seeking an Extra-Help BiblioBus Librarian I or II to work substitute shifts at various branches, assisting with outreach and driving the BiblioBus to community stops and events throughout the County.

Job Description

This is a non-benefitted, extra-help position, with a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year, intended to fill in for staff during temporary staffing needs. The position is located at the Rohnert Park Headquarters.

Responsibilities:

• Provide excellent customer service.
• Perform a variety of professional adult library services, including reference, reader’s advisory, collection development, event planning, and outreach.
• Provide digital literacy training to the public.
• Assist, advise, and instruct patrons on the use of library materials and equipment, including automated catalogs, the Internet, various software, eBooks, audiobook reading and listening devices, and digital literacy in general.
• Conduct reference searches using a variety of databases, online, and other search techniques.
• Help maintain and select the addition of books, reference materials, CDs, DVDs, electronic media, and other library materials.
• Assist at the Circulation Desk when needed.
• Assist in and/or direct the preparation of exhibits and the organization and presentation of a variety of programs and events, as well as forming community partnerships for co-events.
• Lead book discussion groups.
• Promote the Library out in the community, at schools, and events.
• Provide written outreach through community publications, press releases, and other promotions.
• Represent the Library in meetings with the community or special interest groups.
• Help maintain social media connectivity to the library public.
• Work collaboratively with staff, the community, and special interest groups.
• The Librarian II performs all of these tasks but at a more difficult, higher level. May serve as Person-in-Charge when Branch Manager is absent.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university.
Librarian II: Requires two years of appropriate professional experience working as a professional librarian, preferably in a public library.
• Valid California driver’s license.
• Spanish bilingual skills strongly preferred.
