About Company:
Spark Academy is a co-ed, residential treatment program for adolescents, specializing in neurodiversity. They focus on treating trauma associated with high-functioning Autism to improve self-regulation and competency. Spark Academy offers a full continuum of care with three distinct residential settings: Foundations, Life, and Launch, allowing for individualized treatment.
Spark Academy is part of The Heritage Community, founded in 1984 and located in Provo, UT. The Heritage Community is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to high integrity in standards of care. They offer a 19-acre campus with diverse intervention approaches.
Job Description:
Spark Academy is offering two Therapy Internship positions starting Summer 2025. They are seeking MSW, MFT, or CMHC graduate students, preferably in their second year. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, proactive, and ready to apply their academic knowledge in a dynamic field setting to help students and families achieve long-term success.
Schedule:
• Part-time
• Internship hours will be coordinated with university requirements and the supervisory Therapist.
• Shift times are during general business hours, Monday – Friday.
• Group therapy sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (mandatory).
• Internship start date: Summer 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as Intern Therapist for a part-time caseload of up to 3 students under the supervision of a licensed Therapist.
• Provide assessment and treatment planning in collaboration with parents, students, and the Treatment Team.
• Take ownership of Master Treatment Plans to establish goals and objectives.
• Provide 1 hour of individual therapy and 1 hour of family therapy weekly for each student.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Plan and conduct group therapy sessions as coordinated with the supervisory Therapist.
• Lead weekly Treatment Team meetings to plan and coordinate therapeutic needs, goals, and objectives for each student on the caseload.
• Communicate with parents/guardians and associated professionals in a timely and situation-based manner, keeping them informed of significant events or changes.
• Assist parents and other family members to become involved in their child’s treatment and care.
Knowledge and Abilities:
• Understanding of neurodiversity.
• Familiarity with clinical theories and applications for trauma treatment, polyvagal theory, executive functioning deficits, learning and processing differences, distress tolerance, rigid thinking, and mood disorders.
• Flexibility and adaptability to handle unexpected situations in treatment.
• Good computer skills and the ability to learn and utilize the company’s internal technical tools.
• A learning mindset, always seeking to improve and develop.
Qualifications:
• Current MSW, MFT, or CMHC student.
• Must have completed requirements in 1st or 2nd year of graduate school to begin internship.
• Must be at least 21 years of age or older to apply.
• Proficiency and fluency in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English.
