Job Description
• Job Title: Graduate Nurse Internship Program (Registered Nurse)
• Unit: 11 West, Michigan Congenital Heart Center (C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital)
• Program Overview: A 12-week internship program designed to prepare new Graduate Nurses for a Registered Nurse position on a general care pediatric unit. The program includes a combination of educational sessions and precepted bedside clinical experience.
• Unit Details: 11 West is a 32-bed unit within the Michigan Congenital Heart Center, including up to 12 moderate care beds for patients requiring closer monitoring and observation. It provides family-centered care to pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery patients, ranging from newborn to young adult.
• Commitment: A two (2) year commitment with a minimum of 30 hours/week (0.75 FTR) is required for candidates hired through the internship program.
• Responsibilities: Upon successful completion of the internship, the RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery patients, ensuring family-centered care and contributing to the unit’s mission.
• Compensation and Benefits:
• Hourly range for Registered Nurses: $41.78-$64.81/hour
• Evening Shift Differential: $3.00/hour
• Night Shift Differential: $4.00/hour
• Day Shift Weekend Differential: $2.90/hour
• Evening Shift Weekend Differential: $5.90/hour
• Night Shift Weekend Differential: $6.90/hour
• Charge Nurse Differential: $1.00/hour

• Salary & Nursing Framework Level: This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C. Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire. Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.
• Required Qualifications:
• Must be a Graduate Nurse or newly licensed in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse.
• Must not have yet practiced as a Registered Nurse.
• Successful completion of the NCLEX must occur prior to the start date of the nurse internship.
• Requires standing/walking/positioning/pulling/lifting of heavy patients and objects for long periods of time.
• Desired Qualifications:
• Experience as an Extern or Inpatient Tech, Pediatrics Preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Highly motivated and organized
• Demonstrated leadership abilities
• Takes initiative in seeking professional growth
• Experience working with children and youth
• Demonstrates expertise in communication and problem-solving skills as evidenced by interviews, documentation, writing skills, and references
• Work Schedule:
• Hours per week: 36 hours
• Shift: Night Shift, Up to 50% weekend requirement
• Location: C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital
• Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
