Job Description:

The City of Englewood is offering internship opportunities across various departments for students pursuing associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees. This is a hands-on learning experience designed to provide exposure to municipal government/the public sector and offer networking opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Hands-on learning and applying your degree.
• Learning more about municipal government/public sector.
• Networking with multiple departments and interns across the City.

What They Are Looking For:

• Currently enrolled and pursuing an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree.
• Available to work full-time (30-40 hours per week) during the summer (May/June through August/September).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and effectively multitask.
• Experience using Microsoft Office.
• Detail-oriented mindset.
• Quick learner.
• Problem-solving skills.

Internships Are Available In The Following Departments:

City Manager’s Office: Oversees general operations, implements policy decisions, and coordinates community relations and special projects.
Community Development Department: Manages building, zoning, planning, business, housing, and environmental initiatives.
Communications Department: Handles press releases, media inquiries, communications campaigns, social media, and neighborhood programs.
Human Resources Department: Focuses on policy development, recruitment, benefits, compensation, training, and employee/labor relations.
Finance Department: Manages financial management, including administration, budget, accounts payable, procurement, and licensing. Potential projects include internal auditing, financial analysis, system implementation, and asset inventory control.
Information Technology Department: Provides application and hardware support, maintains IT services, and focuses on data analytics and GIS.
Parks, Recreation, Library and Golf: Oversees recreation centers, the library, aquatic center, golf course, and parks, running community engagement programs.
Police Department: Organized into Patrol, Special Operations and Codes, and Support Services divisions. Runs programs including code enforcement, community relations, and victim assistance.
Public Works Department: Constructs, repairs, and maintains city infrastructure, including streets, traffic systems, and building facilities. Provides engineering expertise for public projects.

Qualifications:

• Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies.
• Interest in the public sector.

Compensation:

• Interns will make between $18-$30 per hour (may vary by department).

Dates:

• Dates can be negotiated, but internships generally begin in May and end in early August.

Hours:

• City offices are open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Alternative work schedules, including telework, can be discussed.
