About the Company:

This externship is offered at Apple Tree Cove Animal Hospital, part of the NVA (National Veterinary Associates) network. Job Description:

This externship provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice and gain practical, hands-on clinical experience.

Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities:

Patient History & Physical Exams: Gain experience in gathering patient histories from clients and performing thorough physical examinations on animals.
Treatment Planning: Collaborate with supervising Associate Veterinarians in the creation and implementation of treatment plans for various medical conditions.
Diagnostics: Participate in a variety of diagnostic procedures, gaining practical skills in areas such as:
• Radiology
• Laboratory testing (e.g., blood work, urinalysis)
Dentistry Services: Observe and assist with dental procedures, gaining exposure to dental prophylaxis, extractions, and other dental treatments.
Surgical Procedures: Observe, assist, or potentially perform surgical procedures under the guidance of experienced veterinarians.
Medical Management: Learn about the medical management of various animal health conditions and diseases.
Communication Skills: Develop and refine communication skills by interacting with:
• Medical team members
• Support staff
• Clients

Externship Details:

Duration: Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student’s and the hospital’s schedules.
Eligibility: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year veterinary students are encouraged to apply.
