The New York City Department of Housing Preservation Development (HPD) promotes quality and affordability in the city’s housing, and diversity and strength in the city’s neighborhoods.

HPD’s objectives are fulfilled through the goals and strategies of “Housing Our Neighbors: A Blueprint for Housing and Homelessness.” The administration has committed $5 billion in new capital funding, bringing the 10-year planned investment in housing to $22 billion.

Your Team

The Compliance Intern (College Aide) will work on projects for the new Office of Compliance and & Risk Management (CRM) within the CRM/Executive division. CRM is centralizing compliance, oversight, and hearing functions to ensure fairness, consistency, and equity. CRM will collaborate with programs across HPD to ensure compliance with laws, regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.

The Office Includes The Following Divisions And Units

• Division of Adjudications
• Division of Economic Opportunity & Regulatory Compliance
• Public Information
• Audit Support

Your Impact

CRM coordinates compliance programs, liaises with units responsible for compliance responsibilities, audit responses, site standard adherence, public-facing appeals and hearings, and manages risk for the agency.

Your Role

Internships at HPD provide students with professional experience. The Compliance Intern will gain an understanding of how compliance can support the agency’s work.

Key Responsibilities

The Compliance Intern will support compliance operations within CRM and other areas. Under direction of the Chief of Staff, they will manage projects including a network of liaisons, audit support project management, tracking compliance requirements, Public Information administration, and other projects.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To Assisting With

• Record management related to specific compliance requirements
• Program and planning documentation for priority compliance projects
• Coordination and organization of data and/or materials for select projects
• Assist with scheduling and external correspondence as needed

Preferred Skills

The Compliance Intern must be detail-oriented, able to perform administrative tasks, and have interpersonal and communication skills.

• Strong analytical, research and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Strong proficiency in MS Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
• Detail-oriented, multi-tasking, self-starter

Hours/Shift

• Part time while classes are in session: 20 Hours
• Full time during summer breaks and recess: 35 Hours

Qualifications

For Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE: Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
