Job Description:

Spokane County is seeking a SkillBridge Intern to serve as an Internal Policy/Technical Publications Analyst. This internship is designed for active-duty military personnel who are transitioning to civilian life and eligible for the Department of Defense (DOD) SkillBridge program. The intern will work within the Auditor Department.

Detailed Responsibilities:

• Reviewing and evaluating existing organization-wide and departmental policies and associated process guides to determine their efficacy and comprehensiveness.
• Identifying areas for improvement in policies and processes.
• Gathering information from various sources, including staff interviews, documentation review, and process analysis, to develop or refine policies and process guides.
• Maintaining evidence-based documentation of findings and recommendations.
• Drafting clear, coherent, and specific policy documents that align with organizational objectives and goals.
• Considering the implications and impacts of new or revised policies on stakeholders and employees.
• Ensuring policies and guides are complete, easily understood, meet legal and reporting requirements, and are not unnecessarily complex.
• Identifying and monitoring policy trends to proactively adjust existing policies to meet changing circumstances or compliance requirements.
• Providing input into the effective communication and training of new policies and process guides.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be eligible for the DOD SkillBridge program.
• No previous work experience is required.
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Skilled in policy analysis, including determining if policies align with organizational objectives.
• Ability to identify policy omissions and pain points.
• Ability to recommend new policies or amendments and apply best practice conventions and standards in the preparation of draft versions.
• Ability to research and incorporate legal considerations relevant to policies.
• Ability to identify and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to prepare reports and present findings.
• Demonstrated skill in communication, documentation, organization, analysis, and technical writing.
