This is an internship position within the Safety Department, reporting directly to the Safety Manager. The intern will provide support in the planning and coordination of safety programs and initiatives for Port staff, along with performing general administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the Safety Department in the planning of safety programs/initiatives.
• Produces, formats and edits Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Inspection Forms, and Incident Reports.
• Supports the tracking of staff participation in safety programs and training.
• Conducts field auditing and inspection, and records data.
• Provides clerical and minor administrative tasks.
• Establishes and maintains necessary office files.
• Adheres to Port Policy and maintains good employee relations.
• Complete assigned tasks and work required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak, or hear, and use hand finger movements. They are occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Use of steel toe boots, safety glasses, hard-hat, & high-visibility vest required in field environments.
Environmental Factors:
Work is performed in both general office and outdoor environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university with a major in Occupational Safety/Health or Industrial Hygiene.
• Demonstrated written and oral proficiency in the English language.
• Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
• Strong writing, editing, and graphic communication skills, organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and a variety of programs, office equipment, and internet.
• Must deal effectively with the public and varying levels of management.
