This is an internship position under the direct supervision of the Safety Manager. The intern will be responsible for supporting the planning and coordination of safety programs and initiatives, involving Port staff and employee participation. The role includes performing general administrative tasks and assisting in maintaining a safe work environment.
Job Description Details:
Essential Functions:
• Assist the Safety Department in planning safety programs/initiatives.
• Produce, format, and edit Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Inspection Forms, and Incident Reports.
• Support the tracking of staff participation in safety programs and training.
• Conduct field auditing and inspection, recording data.
• Provide clerical and minor administrative tasks.
• Establish and maintain necessary office files.
• Adhere to Port Policy and maintain good employee relations.
• Complete assigned tasks and work required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Physical Factors:
• Employee is regularly required to sit, speak, or hear and use hand-finger movements.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
• Use of steel toe boots, safety glasses, hard-hat, & high-visibility vest required in field environments.
Environmental Factors:
• General office and outdoor work environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Candidates shall be enrolled in an accredited college or university with a major in Occupational Safety/Health or Industrial Hygiene.
• Demonstrated written and oral proficiency in the English language.
• Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
• Strong writing, editing, and graphic communication skills.
• Organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and a variety of programs, office equipment, and internet.
• Must deal effectively with the public and varying levels of management.
