Job Description:

This is a Community College Internship (CCI) opportunity at PNNL. The CCI program encourages undergraduate students and recent graduates to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing research experiences at Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories.

Key aspects of the role include:

Research Experience: Selected students will participate as interns at PNNL, working under the guidance of laboratory staff scientists or engineers on projects supporting the DOE mission.
Program Affiliation: This role falls under the Department of Energy’s Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) program. Candidates apply through a DOE-WDTS website and must meet eligibility requirements established and verified by DOE-WDTS.
Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents at the time of application. A current application in the Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientist (WDTS) system is required. Additional CCI requirements are listed here https://science.osti.gov/wdts/cci/Eligibility.
Pay: The hourly rate ranges from USD $16.66 to USD $30.00, with the actual placement in the range based on relevant job-related skills, qualifications, and experience.

Security: New employees are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential, which involves completing and passing a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. Foreign Nationals may be required to obtain a favorable Local Site Specific Only (LSSO) risk determination to maintain employment.
Mandatory Requirements: As a condition of employment, candidates must disclose any affiliation with the government of a “country of risk” identified by the DOE and recuse themselves of that affiliation or receive approval from DOE and Battelle prior to their first day of employment.
