Job Description:

This is a SkillBridge Internship opportunity within the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, designed for active-duty military personnel transitioning to civilian careers in the next 3-6 months. The program provides on-the-job training and experience. Candidates must be eligible for the Department of Defense (DOD) SkillBridge program.

Available Placement Options:

Sheriff’s Office Administration / Accounting Department: Suited for those interested in clerical, accounting, and financial management roles.
Sheriff’s Office Real Time Crime Center (RTCC): Geared towards individuals interested in intelligence and analyst positions.
Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Center (RTC): Recommended for those interested in clerical, education management, and service-oriented roles, especially if considering becoming an Entry Level Deputy Sheriff after the internship.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performing technical and/or clerical duties using various computer programs and equipment.
• Handling receptionist duties, including answering multi-line phones and interacting with the public.
• Participating in projects and activities to develop professional skills.
• Assisting with the planning and implementation of Agency projects.
• Receiving guidance, training, and mentoring from professional personnel.
• Conducting research and preparing reports.
• Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Creating, updating, and maintaining records and files.
• Drafting reports and managing supplies.
• Assisting with planning meetings and events.
• Responding to inquiries from internal and external customers.
• Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of new software programs.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Must be eligible for the DOD SkillBridge program (see https://skillbridge.osd.mil/index.htm).
• No previous work experience is required.
• Must pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Experience:

• Six (6) months of experience using Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

Skills to be Developed:

• Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
• Keyboarding, word processing, and general office practices (filing, indexing, etc.).
• Simple accounting.
• Legal terminology, business English, and grammar.
• Basic computer programs and spreadsheet skills.
