Position: Field Assistant Intern
The Field Assistant Intern supports field projects and delivers Trout Unlimited’s Deschutes Restoration Outreach Program. This involves a multi-faceted educational outreach program engaging youth and young adults in Trout Unlimited’s angler-centric conservation mission. The Field Assistant works closely with the Oregon Conservation Education Manager and Central Oregon Project Coordinator to:
• Scout project sites
• Support volunteer days
• Work with project partners for basic implementation on the ground
• Support delivery of Stream of Engagement, including planning and carrying out watershed education events for K-12 students and youth from community-based organizations
This is a regional-level position supporting volunteer leaders, project logistics, and youth program participants in the Pacific Northwest.
Responsibilities:
• Support educational experiences with high-priority conservation projects, connecting educational audiences and TU members.
• Teach youth education participants in the field and in the classroom, catering to a diversity of learning styles and participant abilities.
• Work with other Central Oregon TU staff to support the implementation of project work on the ground and educational programming in Central Oregon.
• Serve as a resource for the Deschutes Redbands Chapter.
• Work with the Oregon Conservation Education Manager and TU communications staff to raise the profile of regional education programs.
Qualifications:
• One year of college classes in biology, environmental education, environmental studies, science education, or a related field
• Passion for environmental and conservation-based education, both in formal and informal settings.
• Experience leading environmental education programming in the Northwest preferred.
• Experience in ecological restoration or watershed science preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to work effectively with others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization.
• Fluency in Microsoft Office suite of applications and use of the Internet and social media.
• Enthusiastic, energetic, personable and a friendly disposition.
• Willingness and ability to travel throughout the region and attend field days during the week or on the weekend if needed.
• Valid driver’s license and a dependable, insured automobile.
