About Brookside Animal Hospital
Brookside Animal Hospital is a newly renovated, state-of-the-art facility with a team of five dedicated doctors. We offer comprehensive veterinary care seven days a week, including surgeries and dental procedures most weekdays, Monday through Friday. We pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming and supportive culture, reflected in the long tenure of our team members – with over half having been with us for more than five years, and many for over a decade.
Job Description: Veterinary Externship
Brookside Animal Hospital offers externship opportunities to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. As an extern, you will work closely with a supervising veterinarian to gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas, including:
• Gathering patient histories: Learning to effectively communicate with clients to obtain relevant medical information.
• Performing physical exams: Developing your skills in conducting thorough physical examinations to assess patient health.
• Creating treatment plans: Collaborating with the veterinarian to develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
• Diagnostics: Gaining experience in performing and interpreting various diagnostic tests.
• Dentistry services: Observing and assisting with dental procedures, learning about dental health and hygiene.
• Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures: Participating in surgical procedures under the supervision of the veterinarian.
• Medical management of patients: Assisting in the medical management of patients, including administering medications and monitoring their progress.
In addition to clinical skills, you will also have the opportunity to enhance your communication skills by interacting with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
Stipend Program:
