About the Company:

McClatchy Media is a news organization seeking a Social Media & Video Intern to contribute to their News Hunter brand. The internship is part of their Non-Subscriber Audience Team, requiring cross-functional collaboration with various departments.

Job Description:

This is a Social Media & Video Internship focused on building a scalable social video program for the News Hunter brand. The core responsibility is launching and managing YouTube channels for News Hunter verticals, transforming existing articles into engaging short-form video content (YouTube Shorts, Reels, etc.). The intern will be responsible for the entire process, from channel setup to performance tracking.

Detailed Duties & Responsibilities:

Channel Setup: Researching YouTube Shorts trends and launching optimized News Hunter vertical channels with strong branding and discoverable tags.
Content Creation: Adapting top-performing articles into short-form videos using visuals, captions, and voiceovers. Utilizing AI tools like Stringer AI and Pictory to expedite production.
Workflow Design: Developing a streamlined, repeatable video production process and maintaining a consistent publishing schedule.
Audience Growth: Optimizing video titles, descriptions, thumbnails, and tags for maximum reach. Collaborating with the Non-Subscriber Audience Team to promote videos and test traffic-driving strategies back to News Hunter sites.
Brand Consistency: Ensuring all videos align with News Hunter’s brand voice, style, and visual identity.
Performance Tracking: Monitoring key engagement metrics (views, watch time, click-through rate, subscribers) and proposing data-driven improvements.

Requirements:

Strong interest in social video content, YouTube strategy, and digital media trends.
• Experience with video creation and editing tools; familiarity with AI video production tools is a plus.
Understanding of social media algorithms, engagement drivers, and content optimization strategies.
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage projects independently and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with YouTube Studio and other social analytics tools is preferred.

Education and Experience:

Enrolled in a bachelor’s program (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university, preferably in marketing, or equivalent experience.
