Upstream USA is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2014 that partners with healthcare organizations to improve access to contraceptive care. They provide free training, education, and technical assistance to their partners, aiming to empower patients to access care where they already receive most of their healthcare. Upstream USA does not accept funding from pharmaceutical companies or the government, instead relying on venture philanthropy. Job Description: Human Resources Intern
This is a 10-week, 40-hour-per-week internship (availability preferable) with a hiring range of $20/hour. The position is based on a hybrid model in the Boston, MA area (one day in the office, the rest remote). As a Human Resources Intern on the People & Culture team, you will gain hands-on experience supporting various aspects of the HR function.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• HR Administration Support: Providing administrative support to the People & Culture team, including maintaining employee records, updating databases, preparing documents, organizing employee folders, and supporting compliance-related tasks. Supporting HRIS system implementation (running reports).
• Learning and Development: Supporting career ladder development for employees, updating job description summaries, tracking in 15Five (talent development software), and assisting with LinkedIn Learning employee compliance. A high-value activity involves facilitating a presentation for a larger audience, showcasing project work.
• Recruitment Support: Assisting with the talent acquisition and recruitment process, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, database updates and maintenance in Greenhouse (applicant tracking system), scheduling interviews, and assisting with job description storage in the HRIS.
• Employee Engagement: Contributing to employee engagement initiatives (team-building activities, recognition programs, wellness initiatives), assisting with survey administration, data analysis, and action planning based on employee feedback, and helping analyze data to develop organization-wide goals.
• Employee Onboarding and Offboarding: Supporting the onboarding process for new hires (welcome packages, orientation, smooth transitions) and assisting with offboarding activities (shadowing exit interviews, processing employee departures).
• Additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
• Understanding of employee file maintenance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to the HR function.
• Experience with file management or creating and organizing documents (a plus).
Note: Upstream USA offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time and eligible part-time employees, but this internship position is not eligible for benefits. The hiring process involves a phone screening, followed by up to three rounds of interviews (potentially including a case study assignment).
