Job Description: Sustainability Intern
This paid internship offers a chance to contribute to the development, implementation, and improvement of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)/sustainability policies, programs, and projects across Leggett & Platt. The intern will directly support the company’s goals to reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainable business practices. The position reports to the Energy Manager but involves collaboration with multiple departments, teams, and leadership.
Responsibilities:
• Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, compile, and review sustainability data (energy, water, waste) from various business units.
• Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Support: Assist the GHG emissions inventory team in producing inventories aligned with the GHG Protocol.
• Best Practices Sharing: Support the global manufacturing network by sharing environmental stewardship best practices.
• Sustainability Handbook Development: Create and maintain a globally usable Sustainability Handbook to enhance ESG efforts.
• ESG Reporting: Assist with ESG reporting processes, including regulatory and compliance activities (GRI, SASB, TCFD, UN SDGs).
• Energy Policy Development: Support the development of an energy policy, energy baselines and benchmarking, and energy management scorecards for manufacturing locations.
• Project Involvement: Participate in various sustainability-focused projects to improve company processes.
Qualifications:
• Pursuing a 4-year or graduate degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Energy Management, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong project and time management skills.
• Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior sustainability experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Commitment: Up to 25 hours per week during the school year, with potential for additional hours during the summer.
