Job Description: Accounting Internship
MPC offers accounting internships in several areas: Audit Assurance & Advisory Services (Findlay and San Antonio), General Accounting (Findlay), Joint Venture Accounting/Operations Accounting (Denver), Operations Accounting (Findlay & San Antonio), Property Accounting (Findlay), and Tax Accounting (Findlay). These internships are available during spring, summer, and fall semesters.
Responsibilities: Interns receive on-the-job training covering the petroleum industry, specific job assignments, and various software programs. Specific duties may include:
• Analyzing and processing business documents
• Analyzing accounting and financial data to prepare financial statement journal entries
• Preparing general ledger account reconciliations
• Preparing tax information
• Testing SOX and Non-SOX controls in auditing
• Assisting in budget preparation
• Interfacing with various departments, fostering collaborative relationships
Career Progression: As interns progress in their careers at Marathon, responsibilities will increase in complexity, including more advanced accounting and analysis tasks, presenting ideas in formal meetings, and developing/enhancing accounting processes for efficiency. Opportunities to mentor less experienced accountants and lead analysis teams will also arise.
Internal Mobility: The Controller’s Organization is committed to providing experience across various business areas. High-performing accountants may transfer to operational components like Refining, Commercial, Logistics & Storage, Pipeline, Gathering & Processing, or other departments such as Tax, Internal Audit, Finance & Treasury, Business Development, and Supply Chain.
Qualifications:
• Required Major: Accounting (other business majors may be considered)
• Strong academic performance
• US work authorization (no visa sponsorship)
• Concurrent enrollment in a bachelor’s degree (or higher) program
• Reliable transportation
• Availability to work 40 hours per week
• Military experience is a plus
Compensation: $19.33 – $24.16 per hour
