Job Description: Finance Intern

This internship provides financial services support to Turner Construction’s profit centers in Kansas City, MO. The intern will assist with various accounting functions, reporting to an Accounting Manager, Operational Finance; Accountant, Operational Finance; or Senior Accountant, Operational Finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounts Receivable/Payable: Assisting accountants in ensuring client billing meets contractual requirements; processing accounts payable for vendors and subcontractors, including verifying lien waivers, contract compliance, and insurance requirements.
Month-End Close: Contributing to the monthly close process, ensuring accurate posting of client bills and project costs.
Audits: Assisting with internal and external audit requests.
Data Entry and Invoice Processing: Facilitating data entry for project invoices; preparing multi-project invoices; handling vendor setup and updates; managing sales and use tax reporting; collecting and distributing client tax-exempt certificates.
Owner Applications for Payment: Assisting in compiling supporting invoice backup for Turner’s applications for payment.
Reporting: Providing supervisors with periodic progress reports.
Administrative Tasks: Performing other administrative duties related to invoice processing.
Professional Development: Applying academic knowledge to the company setting; adhering to company policies and procedures; participating in company-sponsored learning opportunities.

Qualifications:

• Enrollment in a 4-year college or university with a focus on Accounting or Finance (at least 1 year completed).
• Willingness to work a standard work week.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills (leadership, volunteerism, community involvement).
• Enthusiasm for learning about Turner’s finance strategy, culture, and values.
• Responsibility, proactiveness, adaptability, attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage accurate and timely information.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills; proficiency in other MS Office applications and data entry.
