About the Job: Data Engineer, Studio & Creative Production Data Engineering
The Studio & Creative Production Data Engineering team within Netflix’s Data Science and Engineering department is seeking an experienced Data Engineer. This team is responsible for building data-driven workflow tooling that shapes the future of content production and promotion globally. They collaborate with data scientists to unlock insights from large, diverse datasets (including media like artwork and video), implementing statistical and machine learning techniques and exposing these via user-friendly APIs.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will:
• Develop Data Interfaces: Work with data scientists, application developers, and product managers to create high-performing and intuitive data interfaces for Studio Creative Production workflow applications. These interfaces will support statistical/machine learning-based data features.
• Serve as a Thought Partner: Act as a key advisor to stakeholders and cross-functional partners on large/novel datasets and system architectures.
• Develop End-to-End Data Solutions: Design and implement complete data solutions, encompassing data sourcing, pipeline development, persistence architecture, and data service development.
• Engage with the Data Community: Participate actively in the internal and external Data Engineering and ML community, sharing knowledge and contributing to Netflix’s brand.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Strong foundation in distributed system architecture and large-scale data processing.
• Strong programming skills in Java and Python.
• Familiarity with distributed OLAP datastores (e.g., Druid or Pinot).
• Experience developing data pipelines in distributed frameworks (e.g., Spark).
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative team player who thrives in fast-paced environments.
• 4+ years of full-time experience in SWE/Data Engineering roles.
Desired (but not required) Skills:
• Experience preparing and normalizing data for Machine Learning workloads.
Compensation:
Netflix offers a compensation structure based solely on an annual salary (no bonuses). Employees can choose the salary-to-stock option ratio annually. The salary range for this role is $170,000 – $720,000. Comprehensive benefits are included (health plans, mental health support, 401k, stock options, paid time off, etc.).
