Job Description: Geotechnical Engineering Internship/Co-op
Terracon is seeking students pursuing a BS or MS degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering for internship (May-August) or co-op (May-December) opportunities across the US. The internships focus on the geotechnical service line.
Internship/Co-op Details:
• Mentorship: Each intern will be assigned a mentor to guide their technical skill development and career planning.
• Professional Development: Opportunities for professional growth beyond technical skills are provided.
• Consulting Experience: Interns will gain a comprehensive understanding of consulting engineering, including client interaction and the differences between consulting and design engineering.
• Cohort Program: Interns participate in a cohort program to network with other interns company-wide and present their summer experiences to executive leadership.
• Technical Skills Development: Training will cover:
• Laboratory safety and safe work practices.
• All aspects of laboratory testing capabilities and test purpose.
• Soil test procedures (ASTM, DOT, COE, etc.).
• Field exploration team shadowing.
• Data review and report preparation.
• Proposal creation.
• Project management basics.
• Communication of test results (internal and external).
• Introduction to GeoReport.
• Quality management system and procedures.
• Responsibilities:
• Perform sampling or testing as directed.
• Actively seek learning opportunities from mentor.
• Assist field and/or laboratory personnel.
• Assist technicians or professional staff on routine tasks.
• Progressively increased responsibility in work assignments.
• Clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
• Create and present a final presentation to leadership.
• Transport equipment, specimens, or documents.
• Provide physical assistance in equipment setup.
Requirements:
• High school diploma.
• Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in science or related field (environmental, safety, engineering, chemistry, biology, geology).
• Ideally, less than one year remaining until degree completion.
