Job Description: Tax Intern (Commercial Japanese Practice)
KPMG is seeking a Tax Intern for its Commercial Japanese practice within Business Tax Services. This internship offers the opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team serving Japanese-based companies. The responsibilities are multifaceted and include:
• Client Advising: Assisting in providing a full range of corporate tax services to clients, including compliance, planning, and research.
• Tax Return Preparation: Helping prepare corporate tax returns for Japanese-owned companies operating in the United States.
• Accounting for Income Taxes: Assisting with accounting for income taxes in accordance with ASC 740 and IAS 12, as reported on financial statements.
• Teamwork: Collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive tax services to Japanese clients.
• Technology Development: Building skills in key technologies used in client service delivery, such as AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
Qualifications:
• Education: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, or engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program.
• Preferred Education: Accounting and taxation degrees are preferred. Progress towards CPA licensure in the relevant state is also preferred (completion of academic credits required before starting as a Tax Associate).
• GPA: A preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Language Skills: Bilingual in English and Japanese, with the ability to utilize both languages effectively in a business setting.
• Technical Skills: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) is required.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate is a flexible and adaptable team player, resourceful in delivering high-quality work. Ability to learn and navigate new technologies is essential.
• Location & Travel: Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed, sometimes with short notice. Personal transportation is required.
• Authorization: Authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based visa sponsorship is preferred.
