Job Description: Early Career GIS Analyst
Location: Portland, ME
Summary: WSP is seeking an Early Career GIS Analyst to support environmental and engineering projects. The successful candidate will leverage GIS analytical skills to create maps and figures, collaborate with project teams, and utilize various geospatial data sources (imagery, LiDAR, etc.). Experience with programming and relational databases is preferred. The role involves data manipulation, analysis, cartography, and the development/use of automated GIS processes.
Responsibilities:
• Geographic and non-geographic data manipulation, management, and analysis.
• Cartography and development/use of automated GIS processes using various software.
• Working within a team in a production environment.
• Revising existing GIS layers and creating new ones according to established standards.
• Working with raster and vector feature layers, attributing features to meet table requirements.
• Correcting geospatial locations using aerial photography or topography.
• Creating high-quality maps, GIS analyses, and data for reports.
• Maintaining metadata and best practices for data and systems.
• Completing assigned training.
• Ethical and responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adherence to WSP policies.
• Performing additional duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Geology, or equivalent.
• 0-1 year of relevant experience.
• Analytical skills and familiarity with research techniques, data modeling, scanning/digitizing, and database maintenance.
• Familiarity with ESRI’s ArcGIS platform.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self-leadership, attention to detail, multitasking abilities, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP policies.
• Flexibility in work schedule as needed by projects.
• Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Awareness of AutoCAD, Python, Visual Basic, Arcade, R, or SQL programming.
• Familiarity with FEMA RiskMAP.
• Experience with relational databases (SQL-Server or EQuIS).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, OneDrive).
• Experience with ArcGIS Desktop, Pro, Online, Survey123, or FieldMaps.
• Experience presenting GIS findings in a collaborative setting.
