About Tesla’s Fleet Analytics Team:

Data is central to Tesla’s product and engineering culture. The company collects vast amounts of data from its vehicles, Superchargers, and energy storage devices to improve products and enhance customer safety. The Fleet Analytics team plays a crucial role in helping numerous teams leverage this data. They provide direct support to engineers through data analysis and develop applications and tools to enable self-service data analysis. Their work relies on an internal data platform built on AWS, S3, Spark, and Trino, utilizing open-source tools like Jupyter notebooks, Pandas, Bokeh, Superset, and Airflow. Their contributions directly impact Tesla’s products and support hundreds of engineers across various disciplines.

Job Description: Data Science Intern

What You’ll Do:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to refine vague problem statements, scope analyses, and utilize results to inform decisions.
• Conduct reproducible data analysis on petabytes of data using cutting-edge open-source technologies.
• Clearly communicate data analysis assumptions and results.
• Develop data pipelines to integrate ad-hoc analyses into production dashboards for engineer use.
• Design and implement metrics, applications, and tools to empower engineers with self-service data insights.
• Work with engineers to promote the use of developed applications and tools.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable, and extensible code for other software engineers.

What You’ll Bring:

Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
Ability to understand electrical systems.
Strong foundation in statistics.
Experience creating data visualizations.
Experience writing software in a professional environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving skills to refine problem statements and devise solutions using available data.
Experience with data science tools such as Pandas, NumPy, R, Matlab, or Octave (a plus).
Experience building data pipelines and web applications (nice to have).
