About the Company:

The internship is offered by The Home Depot’s OrangeWorks Innovation Lab. The lab focuses on using newer and emerging technologies to solve business challenges within The Home Depot.

Job Description:

The OrangeWorks Innovation Lab internship is a part-time opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students interested in software development. This is not a typical internship; it involves tackling real-world business problems from across The Home Depot. Interns will utilize full-stack development to build prototypes as solutions.

Key aspects of the internship include:

Full-Stack Development: Learn the fundamentals of full-stack development, building a prototype to solve a given business problem.
Research & Problem Solving: Conduct research to understand the business challenge and explore technological solutions.
Design Thinking: Learn and apply design thinking principles throughout the project lifecycle.
Collaboration & Agile Processes: Work collaboratively with team members using agile methodologies.
Presentation Skills: Present your work and findings to stakeholders.
Technology Exploration: Experiment with newer or emerging technologies.

Responsibilities are broken down as follows:

40% Delivers & Executes: Develop, test, deploy, and maintain software under guidance.
30% Learns & Grows: Learn through experimentation, actively seeking opportunities for growth and challenges.
30% Plans and Aligns: Collaborate with team members using agile processes and communicate effectively with diverse groups.

Specific skills and technologies that are helpful (but not necessarily required) include:

• Front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks)
• Object-oriented programming (preferably Java)
• Source code version control
• Relational or NoSQL database technology
• Cloud computing techniques
• CI/CD tools
• Microservice-based architecture

Program Details:

Dates: August 25 – December 5, 2025 (Fall Semester)
Hours: Minimum 15 hours per week, during core business hours (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET), Monday-Friday. Work can be done virtually; non-local students can work remotely. Local students may need occasional on-site visits.
Ideal Candidate: Students interested in a future career in software engineering.

Qualifications:

Minimum: Must be 18 years or older and legally permitted to work in the United States. A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field.
Preferred: 0-1 year of relevant work experience; exposure to various technologies listed above.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Primarily sedentary work in a comfortable indoor setting. Occasional light lifting may be required. No travel is required.
