Job Description: Construction Internship (West Valley & East Valley Locations)

This internship provides hands-on experience in the new home construction process at Shea Homes communities located in West Valley and East Valley. Interns will gain exposure to various stages of construction, including:

Site and Concrete Work: Learning the initial phases of construction.
Framing: Understanding the structural build of the home.
Rough Mechanicals: Exposure to plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems installation.
Finishes: Experience with the final stages of home construction, including interior and exterior details.
Budgeting and Scheduling: Understanding the financial and temporal aspects of project management.
Customer Service: Working alongside the Customer Service department to see how the construction process interacts with homeowner experience post-closing.

Interns will collaborate with various teams, including:

Shea Homes field Construction and Customer Service staff
Leadership
Tradespeople

Beyond the core construction process, the internship will include planned touchpoints with other key business areas:

Sales: Understanding the sales process and its relationship to construction.
Purchasing: Learning about material procurement and management.
Land Development: Gaining insight into the initial stages of community development.

The internship also includes training on:

Workplace safety culture: Learning and reinforcing best practices.
Safety laws and regulations: Gaining a comprehensive understanding of site-specific safety requirements.

Qualifications:

Ideally, candidates will be enrolled in an undergraduate program in Construction Management, Engineering, Real Estate Development, or a related field. While prior construction experience is beneficial, it is not required. The ideal candidate possesses:

• A strong desire to learn about new home construction and explore various business areas.
• The ability to quickly acquire new skills.
• Proficiency in using various technologies (computers, tablets, Microsoft Suite).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
