Job Description: Vertex Co-op Program (Engineering)
The Vertex Co-op Program provides students with hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Co-ops will work alongside experienced professionals in an innovative and team-oriented environment, characterized by collaboration and a “relentless” pursuit of goals.
The program offers a variety of positions across several functional areas:
• Analytical Development (AD): Involves developing and validating analytical tests using spectroscopic, chromatographic, and solid-state characterization techniques to assess the quality, safety, and performance of medicines.
• Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) Device Operations: Supports device-related activities, including prototyping, sample preparation, mechanical testing, fixture design and redesign, and design of experiments for proof-of-concept and optimization studies.
• Process Development: Focuses on developing commercially relevant manufacturing processes. Co-ops will gain experience in chromatography, filtration, study design, statistical analysis, and process scale-up.
• Technical Operations: Offers opportunities to work in a data-rich environment, developing models for process analytical technology (PAT), addressing analytical method life-cycle management issues, and advancing product and process understanding.
• Vector Core: Involves bioprocessing of viral vectors, assisting in process development and production to support programs within the Vertex Cell and Genetic Therapies (VCGT) portfolio.
Program Details:
• Duration: Full-time, July – December 2025
• Eligibility: Students pursuing advanced degrees (graduating after July 2025) in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology (with heavy automation experience), or a related field. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required (no sponsorship provided).
• Compensation: $20.00 – $35.00 USD/hour (this is an estimate provided by a third-party agency that will employ the co-op). Overtime may be eligible.
