Job Description: Editorial Intern

City & State is seeking a highly motivated editorial intern from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism for a paid, three-month (280-hour) internship starting in late May 2025. The internship will be hybrid, with a preference for in-person work at their Manhattan office.

Responsibilities:

• Pitch, report, and write stories on New York City and state politics.
• Assist reporters and editors with research on long-term projects.
• Potential to cover in-person events like press conferences, campaign events, and rallies.

Qualifications:

• A strong passion for New York politics.
• A passion for writing and journalism.
• Meticulous attention to detail and willingness to receive feedback.
• A politics or journalism major is a plus.

Application Process:

Applicants should submit a resume, cover letter, and two writing and/or journalism samples. Applications are reviewed as they are received, with a deadline of March 7, 2025. Previous interns have had the opportunity to interview gubernatorial candidates, track legislation, and hold officials accountable. This internship will involve significant participation in covering the New York City primary elections, including the mayoral race, contributing to editorial discussions and pitch meetings.
