Job Description

About the Company:

Highline Public Schools (District #401) is committed to ensuring that every student is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates prepared for their chosen future. Their strategic plan, updated in 2023, prioritizes four key goals: fostering a culture of belonging, providing innovative learning experiences, developing bilingual and biliterate skills, and preparing students for a future-ready mindset. The district is an equal opportunity employer, complying with all federal rules and regulations regarding non-discrimination.

Job Description:

This posting is for unpaid internships (Type III Volunteer) for students in educator preparation programs seeking student teaching, observation, or practicum hours within Highline Public Schools. The internship is a non-paid volunteer position where students can apply classroom skills, build community with students, learn from a mentor, and demonstrate the knowledge required for Washington State educator certification.

Key Responsibilities:

• Applying skills learned in the educator preparation program.
• Building relationships with students and staff.
• Working under the guidance of a cooperating mentor.
• Demonstrating subject matter expertise.

Specifics:

Hours: Determined by the student’s educator preparation program.
Dates: Fall 2025-2026 (August-December). Exact dates are determined in partnership with the student’s program.
Application Process: All applicants must submit a completed internship application. Pre-approval from HR does not guarantee placement. Applications submitted less than one month before the internship start date may not be reviewed or placed. Current employees requiring leave for student teaching hours must apply separately and obtain approval from their building administrator (contact Laura Castanada).
Placement: HR reviews applications, matches approved interns with cooperating mentors, and handles institutional affiliate agreements. College/university field placement coordinators should use a separate request form.

Important Considerations:

• This is a volunteer position; it is unpaid.
• Pre-approval does not guarantee placement.
• Timely application submission is crucial for consideration.
• Current Highline employees have placement priority.
