Job Description: SkillBridge Intern – Biomedical Equipment Technician
This internship, offered through the Military DoD SkillBridge program, provides active-duty service members nearing the end of their service (within the last 180 days) with real-world experience in biomedical equipment technology. The program is unpaid, as participants continue to receive their military compensation and benefits.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Working within a hospital environment, the intern will evaluate and troubleshoot imaging/PCS equipment issues.
• Implement necessary repairs and perform planned maintenance (PM).
• Conduct safety and environmental inspections.
• Maintain effective customer relations, following GE policies, hospital protocols, and proper documentation procedures.
• Communicate with customers to ensure issue resolution and follow-up, driving customer satisfaction.
• Support business goals and objectives by assisting in the implementation of GE/customer facility contracts.
• Assist more experienced technicians on complex repairs.
• Work as part of a local team to provide efficient service delivery.
• Document repair actions and submit reports according to schedule.
• Manage parts inventory and vendor service delivery processes according to GE policies.
• Maintain tools, test equipment, and spare parts, ensuring proper calibration.
• Maintain and enhance technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures for safe and effective medical equipment use.
• Comply with Health and Human Services and Environment Health and Safety requirements.
• Complete all required Quality and Compliance training.
• Report any customer quality or compliance concerns immediately.
• Adhere to GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and relevant laws and regulations.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Active Military Personnel: Must be within 180 days of separation from service.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs unassisted; frequent bending, stooping, twisting, climbing, crouching/squatting, kneeling/crawling, sitting, and standing; reaching at, above, and below shoulder level; neck flexion/extension; good hand and finger dexterity; color, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Must not relocate more than 30 miles from current location without managerial approval.
Desired Characteristics:
• Previous experience or coursework in interpreting schematic diagrams and performing troubleshooting and planned maintenance on biomedical, diagnostic imaging, or electronic equipment.
• Strong customer relations skills.
• Analytical and communication skills; ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers.
• Experience collaborating with internal teams and external customers in a service-oriented process.
