Job Description: SkillBridge Internship – Biomedical Equipment Technician
This internship, offered through the Military DoD SkillBridge program, provides active-duty service members with real-world experience in a biomedical equipment technician role during their final 180 days of service. The internship is *unpaid*, as participants continue to receive their military compensation and benefits.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Working within a hospital environment, the intern will evaluate and troubleshoot imaging and patient care systems (PCS) equipment.
• They will perform repairs, planned maintenance (PM), safety, and environmental inspections.
• Maintaining effective customer relationships is crucial, requiring excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Adherence to GE policies, hospital protocols, and accurate documentation is mandatory.
• Interns will communicate with customers to ensure issue resolution and follow-up, aiming for high customer satisfaction.
• Support of GE/customer facility contracts and business goals will be part of the role.
• Collaboration with experienced technicians on more complex repairs may be involved.
• Efficient service delivery to assigned accounts is expected.
• Accurate documentation of repair actions and submission of reports are required.
• Management of approved parts inventory and vendor service delivery processes (as instructed) are included.
• Proper care and calibration of spares, tools, and test equipment are essential.
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of standards, codes, and procedures for safe medical equipment use is necessary.
• Compliance with Health and Human Services and Environment Health and Safety regulations is mandatory.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Must be active military personnel.
• Must possess strong customer relationship skills.
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted; frequent bending, stooping, twisting, climbing, crouching/squatting, kneeling/crawling, sitting, and standing for extended periods; reaching at, above, and below shoulder level; neck flexion/extension; good hand and finger dexterity; and specific vision abilities (color, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception).
• Must not relocate more than 30 miles from their current location without managerial approval.
• Completion of all planned Quality and Compliance training within deadlines.
• Immediate reporting of any customer quality or compliance concerns to the Quality Organization.
• Awareness of and compliance with GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations.
Desired Characteristics:
• Prior experience or coursework in interpreting schematic diagrams and performing troubleshooting and planned maintenance on biomedical, diagnostic imaging, or electronic equipment.
• Strong customer relationship skills.
• Analytical and communication skills, able to explain technical issues clearly to customers.
• Experience working with internal teams and external customers in a service-oriented process.
