Job Description

The Austin Fire Department (AFD) Education Services Division is offering an unpaid, temporary internship for the Spring of 2025, running from April 14th, 2025 to July 31st, 2025. This is a 15-20 hour per week position with some flexibility. The internship is grant-funded and located at 4800 Shaw Ln Austin, TX 78744.

About the Job:

This internship will provide the selected candidate with experience in assisting with the planning and production of training materials and other graphic content for the AFD Education Services Division. The intern will utilize provided software and computers to perform the following tasks:

Video Production: Creating and editing video tutorials of testable skills and other hands-on training scenarios. This will include on-site filming (requiring outdoor work and occasional travel within the AFD response territory).
Presentation Design: Updating the design of division PowerPoint presentations.
Event Materials: Designing event materials such as programs, invitations, and flyers.
Graphic Design: Performing other creative tasks related to graphic design and photo/video production.

Important Note: All media created during the internship becomes the property of the Austin Fire Department (AFD). Interns may retain copies for portfolio purposes only; licensing, selling, or public sharing (including social media) is strictly prohibited.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Current enrollment in a creative arts/design field of study at an institution of higher education, in good academic standing.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in photo/video production; proficiency with photo/video editing software; proficiency with graphic design software; proficiency with PowerPoint.

Responsibilities: The intern will assist with planning and producing training materials; creating and updating PowerPoints; creating and editing video tutorials; assisting with hands-on training scenarios; and performing other creative tasks related to graphic design and photo/video production. The intern will also be responsible for communicating and interfacing with members of the Education Training Division. No supervisory or leadership responsibilities are included in this role.

Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must possess knowledge of basic creative arts/design techniques and documentation practices; knowledge of video production; proficiency with photo/video and graphic design software; ability to create and update PowerPoints; and the ability to design and update event materials.
