Detailed Job Description (Industrial Engineering Co-op/Intern):
This description outlines potential environments and duties for Industrial Engineering co-op/intern positions across various Honda departments. Opportunities exist in Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Facilities, with projects varying widely depending on department needs.
Manufacturing: Focuses on equipment, process, quality, and new model activities. Responsibilities might include project management, problem analysis, production support, investigating and implementing new technologies, quality learning and performing vehicle testing (chassis, brakes, controls, bonnet, trunk, and/or door systems), developing test procedures and fixtures, new model development (drawings, layouts, design change requests), investigating and providing countermeasures for mass production design issues, and warranty data trend analysis (including recreating failures to determine root cause and developing countermeasures).
Purchasing: Involves completing supplier process capabilities assessments, problem reporting and analysis, countermeasure implementation, investigating suspect part issues, approving part changes, approving/verifying supplier countermeasures, and issuing trouble reports. Daily tasks include meetings, project activities, problem analysis, writing technical reports, and troubleshooting/communication with internal/external customers.
Facilities: Includes updating and documenting CAD drawings of existing infrastructure, analyzing and designing sanitation, HVAC, and building pressure systems, developing short and long-term solutions to facility problems, designing modifications to existing structures, updating mechanical engineering specifications and standards, reviewing electrical drawings, learning about plant power infrastructure, verifying electrical panel schedules, and updating highbay light locations.
Tooling/Equipment Design: This area involves designing manufacturing equipment and tooling in 2D and 3D CAD systems, determining equipment electrical hardware, software (PLC, HMI, etc.) and safety requirements, managing schedules, tracking daily processes, and troubleshooting problems during installation and manufacturing.
Required Qualifications:
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• General engineering coursework.
• Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
• Sophomore (by credit hour) status or above in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program studying Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License (exceptions considered).
• Ability to provide own transportation.
• Availability to work a minimum of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week.
Desired Qualifications:
• AutoCAD experience
• CATIA experience
• Manufacturing-related coursework
Location: Positions are available in Anna, Ohio; Marysville, Ohio; East Liberty, Ohio; Raymond, Ohio; Greensburg, Indiana; Swepsonville, North Carolina; and Lincoln, Alabama.
