Job Description: Data Scientist Intern – SMB Portfolio Analytics
What you need to know about the role: This is a Summer 2025 internship with PayPal’s Global SMB Portfolio Analytics team. The team works closely with senior leadership, Strategy, Go-To-Market, Product, and Marketing teams to deliver analytical insights, perform merchant segmentation, drive global initiatives, and develop self-service tools to improve decision-making.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
• Becoming an SMB domain expert and conducting data analysis to improve financial benefits without negatively impacting customer experience.
• Challenging existing processes and promoting data-driven decision-making.
• Collaborating with product leaders to understand new offerings and recommend key performance metrics.
• Identifying key metrics, performing in-depth data analysis, and creating clear, concise insights for senior stakeholders.
• Analyzing business performance, troubleshooting issues, and recommending solutions for improvement.
• Synthesizing large datasets, presenting findings and recommendations to senior leaders.
• Collaborating with engineering and data teams to improve data tracking and build necessary pipelines.
• Defining and implementing best practices in analytics and experimentation.
• Managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience analyzing large, multi-dimensional datasets and translating insights into actionable solutions (This seems contradictory to an internship requirement. Clarification needed).
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field; advanced degrees preferred.
• Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and visualization tools (Tableau or Looker). Experience with Python or R is a plus.
• Strong understanding of statistics (hypothesis testing, regression) and experience designing and evaluating experiments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience leading cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
• Passion for problem-solving and comfort with ambiguity.
Internship Program Requirements:
• Summer 2025 internship only (no Spring or Fall).
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Must return to school in Fall 2025.
• Must reside in the U.S. during the internship.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for the summer.
• Location: San Jose, CA
