About Mercury Ignite:

Mercury Ignite is a 12-week paid summer internship program offered by Mercury Insurance, a company consistently recognized for its achievements and culture, including being named one of America’s Best Midsize Employers for 2024 by Forbes. The program provides students with practical work experience in the technology field within the Mercury Technology Solutions Team (MTS). MTS is focused on driving business growth and providing top-quality customer and agent experiences. The internship is fully remote and offers a collaborative and immersive experience. Beyond work, interns will participate in virtual lunch-and-learns with executives, networking events with Mercury leaders and team members, and various virtual social events. High-performing interns may be offered full-time employment opportunities.

Job Description:

Mercury Ignite is seeking curious, passionate, and hard-working students from quantitative academic fields for its summer internship program. Interns will work on real business problems across multiple business units within the insurance industry. The work will be highly collaborative, operating within an Agile framework involving daily stand-ups and weekly problem-solving sessions. Interns will also participate in broader functional meetings to gain context.

Essential Job Functions:

• Work within an interactive Agile framework (daily stand-ups, weekly problem-solving sessions).
• Participate in broader functional meetings.
• Develop a minimum viable product (MVP) over the summer.
• Present MVP findings to Mercury leadership.

Qualifications:

• Legally eligible to work in the U.S.
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s (BS/BA) or Master’s (MS/MA) degree in an information technology field.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA (3.5 or higher preferred). Current GPA must be provided.
• Enrolled in a university program with an expected graduation date on or after August 2024.
• Planning to seek full-time employment between December 2025 and September 2026.

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manipulate and analyze data to solve business problems.
• Willingness to learn independently and contribute within a team.
• Strong programming skills in Python or R; experience building dashboards.
• Experience with SQL and Git/GitHub/GitLab (preferred, but not required).

Program Details:

• Internship begins June 2025.
• 12-week duration.
• Fully remote.
• 40-hour work week.
• Paid internship: $30 per hour.

Physical Requirements: The job is primarily sedentary.
