Job Description: Back-End Software Engineer Intern (Summer 2025)

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop high-volume, scalable software using languages like Java, SQL, and REST.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (front-end developers, designers, product managers, and other business units).
• Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code in languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Develop and maintain databases, optimizing for data integrity and performance.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving internal coding standards and best practices.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize back-end services.

Basic Requirements:

• Proven experience building, breaking, and rebuilding software applications.
• Solid understanding of server-side languages (Python, Java, Node.js, or similar).
• Familiarity with database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).
• Understanding of Web Services, SOA, and REST APIs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• A desire for continuous learning and exploration.

Internship Program Information and Requirements:

• Summer 2025 internship program only (no spring or fall internships).
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Must return to school in Fall 2025.
• Must reside in the U.S. during the summer internship.
• Must be able to obtain authorization to work in the U.S. for the summer.
• Location varies within U.S. PayPal office locations. A hybrid work model (3 days in the office, 2 days remote) is utilized for the majority of employees.
