Job Description: Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Industrial Hygiene Co-op/Intern
This description outlines potential roles within Honda’s Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Industrial Hygiene departments. Work environments and projects vary but may include:
Work Environments and Projects:
• Manufacturing: Working directly within manufacturing settings.
• Project Management: Managing aspects of environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene projects.
• Problem Analysis: Identifying and solving environmental, safety, or health issues.
• Technology Implementation: Researching and implementing new technologies to improve environmental, safety, or health performance.
• Equipment Review: Evaluating existing equipment and specifying requirements for new equipment, focusing on safety and environmental considerations.
• Ergonomic Evaluations: Conducting ergonomic assessments and documenting findings.
• Process Evaluation: Reviewing new processes to minimize ergonomic risks.
• Activity Review: Classifying production and maintenance activities as routine or non-routine for safety and compliance purposes.
• ISO Documentation: Reviewing and updating International Organization for Standardization (ISO) documents.
• SERC Reporting: Completing and submitting State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) reports and suggesting improvements.
• Special Projects: Supporting projects such as new model launches or process modifications.
Environmental Responsibilities (Examples):
• Preparing Hazardous Chemical Inventory reports (Ohio EPA).
• Tracking chemical use and waste generation.
• Analyzing waste samples.
• Updating Title V Air Permit Applications.
• Managing Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Scheduling and tracking associate respiratory and audiometric testing.
• Conducting breathing air testing.
• Various sampling projects (e.g., lead paint sampling).
Safety Services Responsibilities (Examples):
• Planning, collecting, processing, and communicating Industrial Hygiene samples (air and noise).
• Supporting company safety program development and training (confined space, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, lead compliance, hearing conservation).
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Sophomore status (or higher) in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
• Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related field of study.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License (exceptions considered).
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Availability for a minimum of 10 weeks, working 40 hours per week.
Desired Qualifications:
• Introductory coursework in environmental studies, safety, or manufacturing.
