Job Description: Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer

Lockheed Martin is seeking an emerging Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer to join a team supporting various contracts and internal research and development (IRAD) projects within Missiles and Fire Control. The role involves designing, integrating, and testing GNC, tracking, and servo control algorithm solutions for missile and fire control products.

Responsibilities:

Algorithm Development and Analysis: Design, integrate, and test guidance, navigation, autopilot, inertial tracking, and servo control algorithms.
Modeling and Simulation: Develop, verify, and validate complex models and simulations, such as missile 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulations and effects-based simulations.
System Performance Evaluation: Evaluate system performance in complex scenarios and environments; verify system and subsystem level requirements.
Analysis and Testing: Perform critical studies, analyses, and test activities, including support for ground and flight test efforts and Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) activities.
Program Support: Support program reviews and technical interchange meetings with internal leadership and external customers.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, physics, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, applied mathematics, or a similar field.
• Demonstrated ability to perform one or more of the following GNC or Modeling and Simulation (M&S) tasks based on coursework or professional experience:
• Developing and analyzing guidance, navigation, autopilot, inertial tracking, and servo control algorithms.
• Developing and/or verifying/validating complex vehicle models and simulations (e.g., missile 6-DOF simulations).
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C++, Matlab, Python.
• Strong mathematical skills in linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformations.

Desired Skills:

• Master’s degree in a related discipline.
• Experience developing and analyzing algorithms related to signal/image processing.
• Proficiency with C++, Matlab, Python, and Linux.
• Ability to perform preflight system performance assessment and post-flight verification analyses.
• Experience designing and analyzing target tracking and terrestrial navigation systems.
• Experience with optimal state estimation filters such as extended Kalman filters (EKF).
• Demonstrated skills in probability, statistics, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Experience with Model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
• Experience deploying algorithms that satisfy real-time performance requirements.

Security Clearance: This position requires a government security clearance; US citizenship is required. The required clearance level is Secret.
