Job Description: STEP Internship Program (May-August)

This is an immersive summer internship program designed to expose students to various aspects of the transportation industry. The program offers a deep dive into PGA’s core engineering disciplines:

Roadway Engineering: Design and construction aspects of roads.
Drainage Engineering: Design and management of water systems related to transportation infrastructure.
Structures Engineering: Design and construction of bridges, retaining walls, and other structures related to transportation.
Traffic/ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) Engineering: Management and optimization of traffic flow.

Beyond core engineering, interns will also gain exposure to:

Planning: Long-term transportation planning and project development.
Landscape Architecture: Design and integration of landscaping into transportation projects.
CEI (Civil Engineering Inspection): Oversight of construction projects.
Facilities Preservation: Maintenance and upkeep of existing infrastructure.
Marketing: Project research and marketing efforts.
Environmental Considerations: Environmental impact assessment and mitigation.

Specific Intern Responsibilities:

Interns will work alongside PGA staff, engaging in project-related tasks including:

Construction Plans Production: Developing and understanding construction documents.
Geometry Design: Understanding the principles of geometric design in transportation projects.
Quantity Calculations: Developing pay item quantities and performing related calculations.
Cost Estimating: Learning the process of developing project cost estimates.
Marketing Research: Assisting with project research and marketing efforts.
Standards and Codes: Gaining knowledge of relevant design standards, manuals, and criteria.
Document Preparation: Compiling project documents for review and submittal.
Technical Support: Supporting technical and senior staff in developing plans, documents, and reports.

Required Qualifications:

Enrollment in an ABET-Accredited Engineering Program: This is a mandatory requirement.
