Job Description: Safety Intern
This is a full-time, temporary internship focusing on construction safety. The intern will gain hands-on experience in a real-world setting, contributing directly to Kiewit’s safety program. The role involves working closely with field teams on various projects.
Responsibilities:
• Implementing and overseeing the Project Safety Program, including developing site safety policies and procedures.
• Monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with regulations (Federal, OSHA, state/provincial, client, and company).
• Establishing and monitoring safe working conditions.
• Providing corrective action recommendations.
• Implementing metrics for tracking and reporting on performance issues.
• Reviewing project work plans for accuracy and conformance to standards.
• Assisting in safety program audits, coaching, and regular on-site training.
• Working in various environments, including diverse weather conditions and terrain.
• Traveling and/or relocating as required for projects.
Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field.
• Knowledge of construction safety and relevant Federal and OSHA requirements (preferred).
• Working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word and Excel).
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
• Strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician (preferred).
• Ability to work in various climates and environments.
• Willingness to travel and relocate.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Base Compensation: $18.00/hr – $22.00/hr (subject to variation based on factors like education, experience, skillset, and location).
