Job Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. The intern will play a vital role in conducting financial statement audits, serving the capital markets, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information. This position demands upholding principles of objectivity and independence, contributing to the effectiveness of client operations, and maintaining the highest professional integrity standards.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate within a team to conduct financial statement audits for primarily Japanese clients or non-Japanese companies requiring strategic support in Japan.
• Analyze financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions to understand client-specific risks.
• Develop clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using established standards and terminology under appropriate guidance.
• Contribute to high-quality audits through task completion and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
• Utilize data and analytics (D&A) in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. This includes leveraging technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, and documenting related findings.
• Contribute to the preparation of related documentation.

Qualifications:

• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent degree.
• Progressing towards CPA licensure requirements in the office’s state of operation (completion of necessary academic credits before starting as an Audit Associate). Additional academic credits are required post-internship for degree and/or CPA eligibility completion.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese, with the ability to utilize both languages effectively in a business setting.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is also advantageous.
• Understanding of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (with an emphasis on Excel), and aptitude for quickly learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and professional skepticism.
• Flexibility, adaptability as a team player, leadership experience, resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work, and project management skills are all pluses.
• Must reside within reasonable commuting distance of the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed using personal transportation.
• Audit professionals are expected to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site on average three days per week; some client assignments may necessitate travel and overnight/extended stays.
