Job Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. This role involves working as part of a team to conduct financial statement audits for clients in the capital markets. Key responsibilities include:

Financial Statement Audits: Playing an integral role in conducting financial statement audits, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding principles of objectivity and independence. Contributing to the overall effectiveness of clients’ operations and maintaining the highest professional integrity.
Risk Assessment: Developing an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
Audit Documentation: Preparing clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of clients’ processes and technology systems.
Control and Balance Testing: Executing and documenting testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology. This will be done under appropriate guidance.
High-Quality Audit Execution: Supporting the execution of high-quality audits through task performance and professional interaction with clients and the engagement team.
Data & Analytics (D&A): Supporting the use of D&A in the audit, including data extraction and analysis. Utilizing various technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI; assisting in the preparation of related documentation.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent. Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business. Additional academic credits must be remaining upon internship completion.
GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
Language Skills: Bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to utilize both languages in a business environment (preferred).
Technical Skills: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred. Experience with data analysis tools such as Alteryx or Power BI is also preferred. Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required. Proficiency in various computer applications, including MS Office (especially Excel), and the ability to quickly learn KPMG audit tools and client applications is essential.
Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; ability to employ sound professional judgment and professional skepticism; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; leadership experience (a plus); resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work; project management skills (a plus).
Location: Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using personal transportation. Expect in-person work at a KPMG office or client site approximately three days per week; some client site locations may require travel and overnight stays.
