Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS):

This business unit focuses on the businesses that accept American Express cards. They are expanding global acceptance of Amex cards, increasing network usage, generating broader revenue streams, and driving innovation internally and with partners. GMNS’s scale is substantial:

• Over 135 million cards in force process 12 billion transactions annually, generating over $1.5 trillion in network volume.
• Over 190 partners issue cards on their network and/or onboard new businesses to accept Amex.

Job Description: Business Development (Product Focus) Internship:

This internship offers a chance to contribute to the vision, strategy, and development of groundbreaking B2B products and applications at American Express. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker and problem-solver who combines business, technical, and industry knowledge. The role involves collaboration with various teams across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Development: Defining product vision, strategy, go-to-market plans, distribution strategies, and value propositions. Conducting market research, analyzing data, monitoring industry trends, and evaluating the competitive landscape to inform product strategies and roadmaps. Defining capabilities for new payment products and services, prioritizing use cases, and designing “minimum viable product” features and user stories.
Data Analysis & Insights: Collecting and synthesizing key product metrics, conducting data analytics, and developing robust cases to drive actionable insights and steer product strategy.
Testing & Learning: Designing and leading test & learn pilots, and leveraging findings to refine the product roadmap or improve the customer experience.
Collaboration & Partnerships: Building relationships with internal and external collaborators, including managing external partnerships to drive new opportunities and business expansion.
Product Development Support: Supporting the development of new and emerging products, services, features, and technology applications, including writing user stories, defining personas, and writing features.
Driving Adoption & Engagement: Driving product and/or feature adoption and engagement through collaboration with cross-functional teams, including marketing and servicing materials development and post-launch impact measurement.
Problem Solving and Strategic Thinking: Utilizing strong analytical and problem-solving skills to distill complex concepts or problems, demonstrating strategic thinking and proactive self-starting to implement and deliver results within a complex organizational environment.
