Job Description: PhD Internship in Experimentation and Causal Inference
Netflix’s mission to entertain the world relies heavily on data-driven content strategy. This internship focuses on building analytical products that assist content partners in complex decision-making. The team is highly collaborative and works across various departments at Netflix to drive impactful results.
The role involves contributing to Netflix’s democratized experimentation platform. This platform supports contributions of metrics and inference methods from diverse users, enabling flexible and powerful workflows for experimenters. The intern will help improve decision-making capabilities by exploring, developing, and implementing new approaches to the design and analysis of randomized experiments and by leveraging causal inference techniques.
Responsibilities:
• Support experimentation at scale by contributing to and improving the experimentation platform.
• Develop and implement new approaches to the design and analysis of randomized experiments.
• Leverage causal inference methods to enhance decision-making processes.
• Work with massive datasets, applying inference methods and manipulating data.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the Data Science & Engineering (DSE) organization.
• Present work at internal Netflix forums.
Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a PhD at an accredited university, eligible to work in the USA as a summer intern. Graduation date of December 2025, Summer 2026, or later.
• Relevant research experience in online experimentation, sequential experimentation, adaptive experimentation, causal inference, or a related area.
• Proficiency in R and/or Python programming.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written).
• Published work in relevant conferences or journals.
• SQL proficiency.
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Curiosity, self-motivation, and a passion for solving challenging problems.

Compensation:
The internship is paid for a minimum of 12 weeks, with start dates in May or June 2025. The internship will be located in either Los Gatos, CA or Los Angeles, CA. The overall market range for Netflix Internships is typically $40/hour – $110/hour. This is total compensation (including any benefits) and can vary depending on location, specific job, skills, and experience.
